Volunteer Opportunities

You can join the dedicated and compassionate individuals who devote time and talent to serving our patients, their families and hospital staff.

Here are some of our areas that utilize volunteers:

Patient Navigator/Guest Services

Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Volunteers greet and assist patients and visitors in the main lobby of UF Health North. Volunteers will provide general customer service and escort patients to different areas within the complex if needed.

Emergency Room Volunteer

Any day, 7 a.m. – 9 p.m.
The primary role of an emergency department volunteer is to visit patients and family members and assist them with non-clinical tasks and comfort measures. A volunteer may assist with additional duties and responsibilities, such cleaning and restocking emergency department items.

Visitation Volunteer

Any day, 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Volunteer functions as an ambassador of goodwill visiting and interacting with patients, families and staff. The volunteer's mission is to lift the spirit and reduce the emotional suffering of those who are ill and alone. He or she seeks to communicate in ways that show compassion and concern by bringing encouragement, hope and joy to patients who might otherwise have no visitors. The volunteer's role is to care and to listen.

Outpatient Clinics

Monday - Friday, mornings or afternoons
Volunteers work in outpatient areas to help provide a welcoming environment. You will provide customer service, emotional support and comfort to patients, families and visitors. You will assist staff with general and clerical tasks and coordinate support groups. Working in a clinic provides an opportunity to expand one's knowledge of a specific field of medicine. Volunteer opportunities exist in the following clinics:

  • Rehabilitation
  • Oncology/Infusion
  • Neurology

Partners in Care

Any day, 7 a.m. - 9 p.m.
Volunteers assist nursing staff on the Intensive Care Unit, located on third floor in the Tower A. Volunteers provide general non-clinical support to patients and families. Volunteers perform various tasks such as distributing and retrieving meal trays, serving ice and water, touring families around the unit and hospital, delivering lab tests and assisting with patient transportation.

Gift Shop

Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Four-hour shifts available whenever the shop is open. Gift Shop volunteers should be friendly, outgoing and willing to help staff, patients and visitors. You will assist with merchandise displays, pricing, customer service and cashiering.

Radiology Volunteer

Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Volunteers will assist the staff at the front desk and help provide a welcoming environment by greeting the patients, escorting them to registration, examination rooms and other areas if needed.

Dog Therapy

Days and Times Vary
UF Health North’s dog therapy program ensures a positive experience for patients, visitors and staff. Our policy allows registered therapy animal teams that meet certain requirements to visit patients.

Surgery Waiting
